- Speaker: Wolfgang Nejdl, L3S Research Center (DE)
- Topic: Web Science – Humans in the Loop
- Abstract:
Since the Web was invented 20 years ago, it has developed into a worldwide information and communication infrastructure with a considerable influence on business, science, and education. But what sets it apart from other infrastructures are its users: billions of users with very diverse backgrounds and goals who are shaping the Web. In this talk I will give an overview over Web Science topics at L3S, and talk about how human goals, thinking and actions influence and shape the Web. Humans introduce diversity into the Web, and work together creating amazing amounts of information, annotations and data sets. And sometimes they behave in ways quite unexpected by developers when they use and browse the Web. Last, I will discuss the scope of L3S research beyond computer science, working on Web Science topics together with colleagues from law, sociology, psychology, and other disciplines.
